A small, warm world

Long ago, songs made the land, and every place still has its own tune. But the old songs are fading. Where a song fades, a grey silence called the Hush slowly comes in. You step off Marda's ferry in Fernwick, a village of lamps by the river, the night before the Lantern Supper. And the inn's old fire has just gone out.

Chop wood, fish the pond, cook, smith and brew. Meet the villagers and help them. Each one has a story and a song to find. Grow strong, team up with other players, and go down into the dark places where the Hush is deepest.

ValeSong feels like the classic online adventures: click to walk, many skills to level from 1 to 99, and a world you share with real people. It is made by a very small team, and it is still early. Come and help it grow.

News

What changed in the game, newest first.

  1. Welcome, first players!

ValeSong is in an early test. We are inviting a small group of players first, so we can fix things before more people come.

Sign in with Google or Discord and your game is kept on our server, so you can play on any device. Things may still break. If something goes wrong, please use Report a problem at the bottom of this page or in the game's Settings. Thank you for helping!

  2. A home page, and a way to tell us about problems

ValeSong now has this home page, with the news, and pages that say what we keep about you (Privacy) and the rules (Terms). The game itself moved to its own address, and old links still take you there.

Something wrong? Use Report a problem, here or in the game's Settings, under About.

  3. The server is ready for many players

We tested the server with 45 bots playing at the same time: walking, chopping, mining, fighting, chatting, banking and taking the river path to Lowmarsh. The game updates every 0.6 seconds (600 ms). Each update took only about 3 ms, and none was late.

We also made the server send its updates in fewer, bigger parts, so the game stays smooth with many players.

  4. Smoother on phones

On a phone, the game now does 35 to 50 percent less work for each picture it draws. Animals far away and the inn's fire stop moving when you can't see them. The Auto graphics setting picks the right level for your phone from the start.

  5. A better first hour

We played the first hour as a brand-new character and fixed what got in the way. The title screen has one clear way in, the Focus bar shows after your first fight, and the tips in the chat come more slowly.

What each quest needs is now in simple words, and the Quests tab puts the quests you can do now at the top.

  6. Lowmarsh opens down the river

Once you have finished The Valesong and have 6 quest points, ride Marda's ferry down the river to Lowmarsh (10 coins), or walk the river path for free. It is a town of huts on tall poles in the misty marsh.

Watch the water rise and fall on the Flat Water, gather in the Reedways, buy from Quill's stall, and climb the Chief's Mound to face the Mire Chief with a party. His big attacks are marked on the ground before they hit.

Older news (4)
  1. Day and night

The Vale now has one clock for everyone: dawn, noon, dusk and night. The sun moves, the moon and the stars come out, and the lamps light up after dark.

  2. Village life

Fernwick and Upweir feel alive: animals by the pond, in the yards and in the wild, each with their own sounds, by day and by night.

Enemies now walk around their home area too, instead of standing still.

  3. Richer woods and new market stalls

The woods have new kinds of trees, bushes and grass, and the market stalls are new and more detailed. Rosie has a new shelf of tools and food, and Lettie's smithy in Upweir buys metal.

  4. The Valesong: Fernwick's story ends

The last part of Fernwick's story. Gather the pieces of the song with Marda in the evening, go to the Lantern Supper, then down to the Song Chamber. Fight the Hush Beast and wake the Songstone.

Fast travel opens too: tap a song stone you have found on the world map and choose Go.

The lamps are lit
